Hometown Hospitality on Display!
Come sit a spell at the Macksville City Library.
With grant funds, the library was able to purchase the new seating, a display case and new books to promote Kansas and Kansans, past and present. Funds also helped start a subscription to a Stafford county’s official newspaper, The Great Bend Tribune.
The aim of the grant was to help make the library a welcoming, comfortable place to gather, while also promoting our town, our state, and local happenings.
The Summer Reading theme this year is: Adventure Begins at Your Library! Many of the books purchased will aid those looking for ADVENTURE this summer & year round. From Kansas: Off the Beaten Path to The Kansas Guidebook 2, patrons can find unique attractions & experiences without leaving the state.
And, those interested in learning more about famous Kansans will find many new offerings, with books about Lynette Woodard, Amelia Earhart, Walter Chrysler, Charlie Parker, & Barry Sanders, to name a few.
Macksville’s local fourth grade students borrowed many of the new books while researching for their Wax Museum.
Other books purchased with local ties include the 105 Meadowlark Reader series, a Kansas Journal of Creative Nonfiction curated by author & MHS graduate, Cheryl Unruh.
The South Central Community Foundation is a regional foundation that manages charitable funds for seven counties in South-Central Kansas. Thank you, to SCCF and to those who give to make grants like this possible!
