The theme for the 2008 Summer Reading Program was “Catch the Reading Bug!”  It was wonderful to have 55 children signed up, and each storytime yielded between 30 to 40 participants.  Wow!

We had fun with stories, songs, games, crafts, and, of course, refreshments (thank you, library board members!!!).   Also, thanks to Smoky Hills Public Television for the Share-A-Story program- story, video, craft, and books & prizes for the kids.   And, thanks to Davis Electric in St. John for sponsoring the T-Shirts given as prizes at the end of the program.  The first photo, above, is a picture of some amazing bugs provided by Wayne and Karen Spencer for the kids to enjoy- Thanks for sharing!   The “Splendid Swans” you see the kids making are an activity that went along with our story The Ugly Duckling, part of the WE THE PEOPLE BOOKSHELF.  The Bookshelf was a grant we received from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and it promoted the theme “Created Equal.”  (You may click on the above pictures to enlarge them.)
