A record 90 kids participated in our “Dig Into Reading” Summer Reading Program!  Thankfully, they didn’t all show up at once!!!

Final Story Hour GroupElbow room is at a premium at the Macksville City Library!!! (see Wish List tab above 🙂 )

Out of those 90 kids, 64 came multiple times, and 12 had PERFECT ATTENDANCE– Way to Go!

We met for six story hours & had a pool party for those who met their reading goals (51 kids met their goals).   We averaged just over 46 kids at each story hour, and 1,186 books were checked out during the program.    When it comes to reading- We Dig It!

Ever thankful, we could not have such a successful program with out help from others.  Thanks to our presenters: Pam Martin from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, Leona Breeden from Smoky Hills Public Television, and George S.- treasure hunter extraordinaire!  Thanks to our volunteers: Eileen, Sophie, Lexi, Emely, Mikeal Ann, Alaina, Hunter, Kirah & Anna, and assistant librarian, Linda.

Thanks to our library board members for providing cookies, to SCKLS for materials (logs, bookmarks, certificates) & $100 in grant money, and to the State Library for the $218  grant for supplies.  Big Thanks to the Pratt Walmart for $75 worth of prizes, school supplies & snacks! Yeah!

And, SUPER, HUGE Thanks to Dollar General.  Through the DG Literacy Foundation, we received a Summer Reading Grant for $1,889.48.  Funds were spent on a new educational world rug, a portable sound system, 78 new books for the library, bookmark reading guides, seeds, pots, & soil,  and some very fun crafts to go along with our program.
