Enjoying the Beautiful Outdoors!
Thanks to a $1,500 grant from the South Central Community Foundation, the Macksville City Library was able to host a variety of children’s programs, encouraging kids to get outdoors.
Our first program was held on Earth Day, where we planted marigold seeds, played cardboard box charades and learned about recycling, rocks & more.
The next two programs featured the book Climbing Kansas Mountains, by George Shannon, and Macksville Grade School 1st and 2nd graders “climbed” our local mountain (grain elevator) using photography tricks.
A game of The Hungry Caterpillar Cornhole entertained the Kindergartners and Preschoolers, along with sidewalk chalk drawing.
And, our Buried Treasure Obstacle Course got the 3rd and 4th graders tossing, spinning, jumping and high-stepping outdoors!
Each program featured books to listen to, books to take home, waters to hydrate, and more. As so many kids tend to be glued to their screens and electronic devices, this was a fun way to promote literacy, healthy exercise, & more, all while breathing fresh air, spying foxes, and enjoying new resources from the library!
Because of the grant from SCCF, the library is happy to announce that we have many new books for checkout, and we also have two metal detectors which will be available for checkout. The new athletic equipment will be used in future programming, and we have two cornhole sets that patrons can use during library open hours.
Thanks, again to SCCF for helping promote learning, health and education in South Central Kansas!
