Activity Bags made possible by SCCF Grant!
The Macksville City Library is excited to offer new Activity Bags for checkout! Using grant funds from the South Central Community Foundation, the library has put together ten special bags, each geared towards younger patrons, especially those in our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
Each bag contains a board book and corresponding learning game, which will be returned to the library after use. Also in the bag are things to keep, such as a Highlights or Ranger Rick magazine, an activity book, and a postcard to send. When kids return the bags with the book and all game pieces intact, they also receive a Brag Tag of their choice. 🙂 Activity bags can also be checked out by local teachers to use in their classrooms.
When the Macksville Grade School Preschool classes came to preview the new bags, they were so excited about the books and games, especially Snow White, the talking cookie jar, and the train game. “I love coloring!” some exclaimed when they saw the activity books. And, since most had never sent a postcard before, it was fun to imagine who the lucky recipients of their creative cards might be!
After reading the classic story, The Napping House, by Audrey Wood, the kids played the learning game: Moon Balance. Some held their breath, and with intense concentration, each student (and their teachers!) rolled the colored die, matched the colors with colorful wooden cylinders and carefully tried to balance their piece onto the crescent moon without making any pieces tumble.
Our new activity bags are ready for checkout. Check one out to promote literacy, critical thinking, & a love of learning! A list a checkout guidelines is available at the library.
Thank you, to the South Central Community Foundation, a regional foundation that manages charitable funds for seven counties in South-Central Kansas. This grant has enabled us to reach out to local classrooms & some of our youngest patrons in a fun, engaging way!
