Summer Reading has officially begun at the Macksville City Library!  We had 42 kids attending our first story hour (see a portion of them in the photo above… we know how to fill this little library!)  The kids decorated book bags, heard some stories, enjoyed snacks, and made cards for their Heroes.  In each card, the heroes were invited to respond back… telling the kids 1. a favorite childhood book, 2. a hero of theirs, and 3. a bit of advice for the aspiring hero who sent them the card! 🙂

We look forward to seeing the responses the kids will get back.  Some have already been returned, & a poster of HEROIC ADVICE is filling up! An example of the cards made can be seen above… (I was happily surprised to receive a card or three!)  If you were fortunate enough to receive a card, please take a moment to make a kid’s day by writing them back! 😉

And, as we speak about heroes, we’re pleased to add the above books to our collection in honor and memory of some people we regard as heroes in their own right. The first book, The Roller Coaster Kid has been donated in memory of Larry D. Frack.  A 1951  graduate of Macksville High School, the dedication reads: “In memory of Larry Frack, a Macksville Mustang, a United States Marine, & an engineer who thrilled the world by helping make the first loop roller coaster a reality!”  The book, The Quilt Story was donated in honor of a 1956 graduate of MHS. The inscription reads ” In memory of Karen (Tucker) Coblentz… Who told stories of the pews being pushed together and of quilts stretched out on racks, the ladies quilting & the children playing underneath in her childhood country church… Our Macksville City Library.”  The final two books were donated in honor of Peggy Susoeff, Baba, a welcome transplant to Macksville who brought much joy to our community & to this little library!
