Bike Safety Program
Macksville Students K-6th were treated to a special Bike Safety Program on May 10th. Thanks to a grant from the South Central Community Foundation, the library joined forces with the Lions Club, local Law Enforcement, & USD 351 to get kids started on the road to safety.
The South Central Community Foundation is a regional foundation that manages charitable funds for seven counties in south-central Kansas. The library received $933.29 to conduct this bike safety program. Funds were used to purchase reflective arm bands and spoke reflectors for each student, plus three books about bikes that can be checked out at the library. The money also covered the cost of materials for a bike rack made by MHS Industrial Arts students Hugo Flores & Erik Jacquez under the direction of Mr. Maseberg.
“Thanks” to USD 351 for treats for the kids and your cooperation in organizing this event. “Thanks” to Doris Tompkins and the Stafford County Health Dept. for your donation of 24 bike helmets (courtesy of a Kansas Safe Kids Coalition grant). ” Thanks” to the Lions Club members for telling the kids about the way you “SERVE” our community and (among other things) find bikes for those in need. “Thanks” to local law enforcement -Tom Fischer, Troy Wright and Michael Lee for presenting the rules of the road & for helping keep our kids safe! Finally, “THANKS” to SCCF for making this program possible!
