Bird Watching in the Park— Tweet all about it!
On June 28th, the Macksville City Library hosted and O.K. Kids Day event at the Macksville City Park.
37 kids were ‘early birds’ and showed up for Bird Olympics, a migration game, bird spotting & songs, and bird food snacks, coloring, & a poem.
Special thanks to the Kansas Wildscape Foundation for the grant to make this possible. And, HUGE THANKS to Pam Martin and Brian Zinke from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center for their leadership and resources which made the event a soaring success. We are also so thankful for the eleven wonderful volunteers who flew in and helped manage & herd the flocks from station to station… THANK YOU!!!
Many participants received O.K. Kids (Outdoor Kansas Kids) T-shirts, and everyone received bird tattoos and a bird spotting guide to use for future outings. Wildlifer brochures were also distributed, and more can be picked up at the library. We love encouraging kids to get OUTSIDE and enjoy nature. Summer is for Digging Into Reading— and for digging in the garden, digging for worms, digging your toes in mud, digging for treasure, etc., etc.!
