Build a Better World Challenge
Our second Summer Reading story hour was June 12th, with 35 kids in attendance. After a game of Community Helpers Charades, we read the book Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. This book ties in well with our Summer Reading theme, as young Alice Rumphius was challenged by her grandfather: “You must do something to make the world more beautiful.”
All Macksville Summer Reading participants have been challenged to “Build a Better World.” After brainstorming for ideas on how to accomplish the task, each child illustrated a card to cheer a local beloved centenarian, signed a sympathy card, and planted marigold seeds along the library ramp. They constructed ‘basketball goals,’ hearts, flowers, and colorful designs with building bricks, then headed out the door with yummy cookies and books galore.
We can’t wait to see all the ways they will find to “Build a Better World.” in the days and weeks to come!
