Children’s Books are OFF the Floor!
It is so exciting! Our beautiful new shelves for children’s books are here, and the children’s picture books are all organized (at least for the time being! 😉 ).
Since we opened the new library addition last May, the children’s books have been stored in laundry baskets & plastic crates, piled high on tables & carts, and lined up three deep on the floor along the walls, as we worked for & waited for funding for shelves.
“Many hands make light work,” they say. Well, we have learned that many giving hearts can make dreams come true! ♥
Hundreds of people gave memorials and donations to make our addition a reality, and in truth, all are partly responsible for everything in it.
Officially, the funds used to purchase the new shelving were from the following: $335.00 from the Midwest Energy, Inc. Community Fund, $500.00 from the Radium Rangers, $783.91 from our SEED Grant fund (from the Kansas Department of Commerce & City of Macksville), $1,000.00 from the Golden Belt Community Foundation, and $8,000.00 from the Macksville VIP.
The shelves arrived November 28th, & much work was done to prepare for the installation.
The unassembled shelves arrived in boxes like great big puzzle pieces. The crew from Office Plus had never assembled this line of shelving before, but they were up to the task!
Four hours later, the reality of it all set in: “Wow… and… Thanks!”
And, four days later, after some very, very long days of heavy lifting, squatting, stooping, and eye & brain-strain, we were ready for the Grand Unveiling.
So happy for the Library and the city of Macksville who will use it.
