On August 9^th, the Macksville City Library will celebrate 50 years of service in its current location.  Please come join us as we celebrate Macksville history and community pride with special displays, refreshments and activities.  Our Open House will be from 9-12 A.M.   Stories and games for the children will begin at 10:30 A.M.  Weather permitting, we will also have a book sale at the library and a booth in the park for Macksville’s Homecoming celebration.  A drawing for Macksville City Library T-shirts will be held for those who sign up for a library card or update their current card.  

In 1958 Mrs. Irma Smith purchased the U.B. Church and School building, which was located in the Valley Center community and built in 1927.  She donated the building to the city and arranged for it to be moved to a lot deeded to the city by Mrs. A.G. English for the location of a city library.  Many improvements to the interior were made, such as the installation of a furnace, rest room, fixtures and furniture, yet the charm of the one-room schoolhouse remains. 

Come see our tin-ceilings, historical items, and our MHS yearbook collection from years gone by.  Also, see the advances we have made and how we can serve you right now.  Check out our new display shelf and one-room schoolhouse books made possible by a grant from the South Central Community Foundation.  Sit down in front of one of our two patron computers, made possible through a matching grant from the South Central Kansas Library System.

We offer large print books, Spanish books, audio books, and books and magazines for all ages.  We also offer interlibrary loans, copying and fax services and free internet access. We have come a long way in 50 years.  Help us celebrate as we look forward to many more years of serving you!
