Earth Day Program– Still time to participate!
What a BEAUTIFUL Earth Day weekend!
Thanks, to those who could attend in person, & especially to Laura, Eileen & Linda for helping with our Earth Day program!
We are still looking for LOTS of virtual participants!
Our program goal is to get kids & families OUTSIDE! And, everyone who participates gets a free book & prizes, while supplies last.
To participate:
- Take a hike, a walk, or a bike ride with an adult & a camera. Enjoy NATURE. You can pick up trash along the way (gloves available at the library), or you can pick up a neat rock to show the librarian later!
- HUG a TREE or SMELL a FLOWER. Email a picture (or 3) of your adventure to macksvillecitylibrary@hotmail.com, or text it to the librarian. (Note: unless instructed otherwise, photos may be shared on our website. No names will be used.)
- Drop by the library during open hours (Monday & Wednesday 1-6pm Saturday 9am-12noon) by May 2nd to pick up your participation treats.
Thanks to the South Central Community Foundation for the grant to purchase books for all participants. Thanks, also, to the Pratt Walmart for the pencils, snacks & potting soil used in our program!
During the windy day program, we read the inspiring book: If You Find a Rock, by Peggy Christian. We talked about Recycling & what you should & should NOT put in the brown recycling bins around town. We played a Recycling Game & then played a game of Cardboard Box Charades!
Then, we went outside & planted marigold seeds along the library ramp. These seeds were ‘reused’ from last year’s dead-headed flowers, & we look forward to seeing them BLOOM! The kids took home some marigold seeds (did you know that marigolds help repel mosquitoes! YES!), as well as some sweet snacks & prizes.
Keep checking back to see some fun photos from Virtual participants! 🙂
