SMILE–February is Dental Health Month!
February is Dental Health Month, & we are THRILLED to be able to reach ALL the schools in Stafford County through a $2,000 grant from the South Central Community Foundation!
Books, toothbrushes, floss, timers, toothpaste, charts, and incentives have been purchased. Library directors from the Macksville City Library, the Nora E. Larabee Memorial Library and the Ida Long Goodman Memorial Library are working with the schools to educate and distribute dental supplies to school kids and toddlers in our communities. We are so excited to offer this program to positively impact children’s health in Stafford County.
Here is a group from Pre-K with their bags of goodies!
Following are more pictures from Dental Programs on Feb. 14th.
EVERY student in the Macksville School System should have received a packet of dental supplies. And, packets for 6th grade and under included tooth-brushing charts. If kids brush their teeth for 31 days (preferably two times a day!) and fill out the chart with a parent/guardian’s signature, they can return the chart to the library (or their teacher) to receive a prize.
If you know of infants, toddlers, or other kids in the area who did not yet get a packet, please let them know that supplies are available until we run out!
Below, you can see two eggs used in the presentation to illustrate how we should protect our teeth from acids in foods and drinks. The top egg was soaked in soda for 12 hours and was stained a sticky brown. The bottom egg was soaked in vinegar for 48 hours, and the shell completely dissolved away. Imagine what drinking soda all day can do to your teeth!
This program, promoting Stafford County Smiles, was made possible through a generous grant from the South Central Community Foundation, a regional foundation that manages charitable funds for seven counties in South-Central Kansas. Click here to find out more about SCCF.
