Fire Safety!
Do you know where to go in case of a fire? Do you have a working smoke alarm in your home? Have you ever seen a firefighter in full gear- mask & all? These are just a few questions that Macksville students, Pre-K through 6th grade, should now all answer in the AFFIRMATIVE!
Thanks to a grant from the South Central Community Foundation, the Macksville City Library was able to offer Fire Safety programming at Macksville Grade School. With grant funds we purchased five Fire Safety books, two videos, nine smoke alarms to give away, and bright red safety whistles for all kids in attendance. And, Thanks to the Macksville Volunteer Fire Department and Stafford County Fire Dept., we were able to give out a total of 17 smoke alarms to families who didn’t have one. Fire Chief Robert Murrow also volunteered his time to visit with each group of kids and show them that a fire fighter crawling into your home is there to help you. He even let the kids try on some of his gear, and may have inspired some future volunteer firefighters along the way!
We were happy to have in attendance for a portion of the programming some individuals who helped make this program possible: SCCF Program Manager, Maggie Southard; SCCF Board Member, Joyce Frazier, and Macksville representatives for Youth Making a Difference: BreAnn Anshutz and Lane Sebes. Thanks also to Linda Murrow for assisting the Fire Chief with all his HEAVY gear.
We are proud to offer this important programming to our community. And, we look forward to using our Fire Safety materials to continue to educate for many years to come!
