Fizz! Boom! Read! #1
Summer Reading is under way at the Macksville City Library!
We had 40 kids at our first session…and somehow we found room for them all (once the world rug was covered by kids, they sat under a table & flanked the bookcases). *
Since it was our first meeting, the main objective was to pass out reading logs, set reading goals for each participant, and get excited about books, science, and summer fun! We read a couple of books and conducted some easy experiments using a pencil: rubber pencil, color-changer, Science Friction, and blind spot finder (see photo). Thanks to a FABULOUS Summer Reading grant of $1,500 from Dollar General (more on that later!), we will have some wonderful new BOOKS for kids to check out, and some awesome handouts to help them learn & keep them reading!
After the crowd dwindled down, some kids couldn’t WAIT to get started on their reading goals. Sprawled on the carpet & even sitting in front of my desk, the READING began. Wow! This is why Summer is a librarian’s FAVORITE time of the year….
Keep checking in to see what is happening with Summer Reading! Note- we now have reading programs for all ages (see earlier post).
*Reminder— we are raising funds for a NEW ADDITION… see “Wish List” tab, or “Thanks & Memorials” tab above for more information!
