It was a Summer of Adventure @ the Macksville City Library!
Our program for 6th grade students & younger is now over (except for those still working to complete their reading logs & earn prizes!).
♥
We had a WONDERFUL turnout this year, & final numbers are still being tabulated as logs are turned in & crafts are picked up.
♥
During our 6th & Final Story Hour, Mrs. Loomis read the big book: One Afternoon by Yumi Heo.
Then, everyone created a tent craft with their photo inside.
♥
As you can see, we had fun taking photos in the weeks leading up to the Finale! 🙂
♥
After crafts, we learned how to say, “Hello!” in other languages, like Spanish, French, Swahili, Japanese & Hawaiian.
♥
And then, it was time for everyone to fill their bags with special prizes! Thanks to a many donations (listed below), kids got to choose: a compass, a notepad, a notebook, a flashlight, a box of colored pencils, a mechanical pencil, stickers from Japan, snacks, two books each, & more!
♥
We recognized 15 kids for 100% attendance(WOW!), & then came the moment they were all waiting for: the PRIZE DRAWINGS!!!!
♥
This photo shows our Grand Prize Winner, who is happily going home with a sleeping bag, a set of Nerf balls, a telescoping marshmallow fork & ALL the FIXIN’S to make S’MORES! (Needless to say, many offered to come over to his house for a cookout that night!) 😉
♥
We drew six lucky names for Summer Reading T-Shirts and five lucky names for posters!
♥
And, FINALLY– we drew names for the huge POKEMON FLOATIES that everyone was hoping to win! The way to enter the drawing was to attend at least two story hours, to turn in a completed Reading Log, & to fill out a book recommendation card for up to six books that you would recommend to someone.
♥
Here are some of the recommendations that might help you find a fun book: Cat Kid Comic Club Influencers– “I loved this book- It was such a good one.” –Natalie. A to Z Mysteries– “These books are so so so funny & easy to read!” –Blakely. Search for the Giant Squid– “It has so many twists and turns!” –Raylan. Just Me & My Friend– “I liked how nice of a friend Little Critter was.” –Gentry. Pinkalicious– “I liked that her body changed colors when she ate too many cupcakes.” –Lucy.
It’s safe to say that the prize winners were very excited about their names being drawn!
♥
After STORY HOUR, most kiddos headed to the pool for our POOL PARTY!
(Wish I had gotten a photo of the FLOATIES being transported on the roofs of vehicles!)
The weather was GREAT, & it looked like a fun time was had by all. Following the Pool Party, everyone had the option to enjoy fresh cut watermelon & ICEE pops.
We are beyond grateful to all who helped make Summer Reading 2024 a success!
♥
From the parents & grandparents who helped make it a priority, to the presenters, volunteers & board members who provided snacks, programming & much appreciated assistance!
♥
Funding a successful program isn’t cheap. The following sponsors are so so soappreciated:Dollar General— a $2,125 Summer Reading grant for books, prizes, instructional supplies & technological advances (soon to come).Golden Belt Telephone– a $100 grant for our grand prizes (more to give for Adults & Young Adults July 31st!).Pratt Walmart– a $100 donation for snacks & prizes.SCKLS– a $100 grant. The Country Store– tokens for all who complete their Reading Log.
The Summer Reading program may be over, but the reading adventure can last all year long!
