Jumpstart 2015
The Macksville City Library participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record for the 7th year in a row.
This year, the featured book was NOT NORMAN A Goldfish Story, written by Kelly Bennett and illustrated by Noah Z. Jones
Students pre-K through 6th grade listened to the story in the school’s multipurpose room before school began. They were excellent listeners & participated right on cue to make fishy faces and join in the repeated refrain: “NOT NORMAN!” They were also sent home with links to read the book online in English or Spanish, so they could share the story with friends or family members (and do their part to help break the record for 2015!).
We joined with millions of adults & children on October 22nd for the world’s largest shared reading experience, working to promote literacy & a love of learning in our youth!
“THANKS!” to the teachers & administration for letting us share Norman with your kids!
About Jumpstart: Jumpstart is a national early education organization working toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. Jumpstart delivers a research based and cost-effective program by training college students and community volunteers to serve preschool-age children in low-income neighborhoods. By participating in Jumpstart’s year-long program, children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for school, setting them on a path for lifelong success. ALSO: Remember to clip your Boxtops for Education and Campbell’s Labels for Education. These can be turned in at the library or the grade school. Boxtops help our school buy books, and Campbell’s labels are collected by the PreSchool and City Library to help us serve kids on limited budgets!
