Update:  We set a new reading world record! On October 3, 2013, adults and children came together to read in celebration of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation. Thanks to early education champions near and far, 2,462,860 children read Otis by Loren Long as part of the world’s largest shared reading experience.

For the 5th year in a row, the Macksville City Library  hit the road, visiting local classrooms & a daycare to help Read for the Record with Jumpstart!

This year, the book read all across the country was: Otis,  by Loren Long.  The 78 kids who heard the story in Macksville were sure that Otis, the friendly tractor, would be the one to save the day when his friend got stuck in the mud. 🙂  They also guessed right that with Otis nearby the chickens would lay more: EGGS, and the cows would give more: MILK.  (Well, all except the daycare kids…. When they were asked “What do chickens lay?”  The wise answer was: “Down!” with a visual of the sweetie putting her head on her hands like a pillow, going to sleep!)

Ahhh – the wisdom of childhood!  And, when we keep reading to our kids, they (and we) get wiser & wiser!
