Kansas Reads to Preschoolers is an annual event celebrated each November to promote reading to children under the age of five. The 2022 selected title is Not a Box, Story & Art by Antoinette Portis. English and Spanish copies of the book are available at the Macksville City Library courtesy of the State Library of Kansas.

We were excited to share this imaginative book with the Preschool students in Macksville!  After listening to the story, each student decorated their very own ‘Not A Box’ and colorful Bunny figure.

Then, we played a game of Charades with a ‘Not A Box’ & bunny. Every student earned a high five & a packet of animal crackers for their entertaining & successful turns.

Students got to take home their “Not A Box” games so they can play with their families & friends. Some of the clue cards are ‘mysteries’ (?)- open to the players imagination– What do YOU think the box can be?
