Kansas Reads to Preschoolers 2013
This week was Kansas Reads to PreSchoolers week— an initiative of the State Library of Kansas. This year we were excited to
read to 22 preschoolers in Macksville. Our book was: Dog’s Colorful Day (A Messy Story about Colors and Counting) by
Emma Dodd. The kids loved telling about the dogs in their lives and learning about Dog’s messy day. After reading the story, we
did a craft. Younger kids added spots to the dog from the story. Older students made their own dogs out of common shapes and
added ten spots of color while recounting Dog’s exploits throughout the day. As always, reading to and working with these young
minds is a joy and you never know what to expect when they get their hands on glue, paper and crayons! If you see one dog with
two black spots on its ears in the picture…. well, we decided that just might be Dog’s sister!
‘Thank you’ to the State Library for providing two copies of the book for us to use.
