Kansas Reads to Preschoolers 2016
We Love November and the Kansas Reads to Preschoolers program, sponsored by the State Library! 🙂 This year, the featured book was one by Karma Wilson that our local preschoolers were already familiar with (Bear Sees Colors). So, we opted to feature another of Wilson’s ‘bear’ books that worked well with the upcoming holidays: Bear Says Thanks.
We read to the four-year-old class first, and each child colored a bear and demonstrated how to say “Thanks” in sign language to earn a licorice treat. The three-year-old class also got to hear the story and color a bear. They listened to a book about the importance of being active every day, and each child received a special treat… a soccer ball & cone to keep… because of course it’s time to get ACTIVE after a “Thanks”-Giving Feast!
The kids practiced walking and balancing their soccer balls like ice cream cones, and then they kicked the balls to knock over the cones. Hopefully they’ll find many more fun uses for these gently used, donated balls!
Check out more “Bear” books at the Macksville City Library. And, children Pre-K and younger are eligible to sign up for our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program! 🙂
