Kansas Reads to Preschoolers 2018
Kansas Reads to Preschoolers is an annual event in November to promote reading to children under the age of five. This year’s featured book, provided by the Kansas State Library was: TEN PIGS An Epic Bath Adventure, by Derek Anderson.
Students in both of Macksville’s Preschool classes enjoyed hearing the story, counting the pigs and figuring out the surprise ending! Then, after singing the song: Ten Little Piggies, it was time to get creative!
From unicorns to Spider Man to Mom, to monsters, kids drew items and costumes for their own pigs to take into the bathtub!
This program is a wonderful reminder of how VERY IMPORTANT it is to read to children… especially those under five.
Students also took home fliers about the Macksville City Library’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program.
If you would like to participate in our 1,000 Books program, stop on by! This program is free & open to patrons Preschool age & younger. (And, the younger kids get started, the easier it is to meet their goals!) Participants can register at the library and pick up their Pledge book & reading log. Parents will help record the books read to their children and turn in reading logs after every 100 book milestone. We will CELEBRATE with stickers & prizes along the journey. After the 1,000th book, their names will be added to the 1,000 Book Wall of Fame!
Reading aloud to children is one of the VERY BEST things you can do to prepare them for future success in education. It’s also FUN & a great way to build relationships, expand vocabulary, and introduce kids to a world of imagination, facts, and amazing people & places! 🙂
