Looking back- and looking forward
On August 9th, we celebrated our 50 year mark in this library. It was a special time of reminiscing for all those in attendance. Gary Seibert brought pictures of the building and congregation when it was the United Brethren Church, located in the Valley Center township. June Seibert, his mother, provided the pictures and has memories of this building when it was a one room schoolhouse and a house of worship. Karen Coblentz shared memories of the building via email… hard to believe our little storage room was once her Sunday school room, and can you picture the ladies quilting here every Wednesday among the pews?…. Finally, Larry Tranbarger shared memories of his time attending the U.B. church and gave insight as to how the building had changed over the years and where all of those doors used to lead!
Thanks to all who attended our Open House and book sale. It was a wonderful chance to look back and learn about the history of the library and our community. It was also a great opportunity to look forward and show how we can serve the community now and in the next 50 years! We signed up 35 new library cards, and had a drawing for all who signed up for cards and/or updated their old cards. Library T-shirt winners were: Doug Lamb, Pat Gullett, LaDonna Llamas, and Cidney Boyd. We had a booth at Homecoming in the park, and you can see a clip from the Macksville Homecoming festivities on the Sandyland Center website (see local links).
