March Into Heart Health!
Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men & women? According to the CDC, around 630,000 Americans die from heart disease each year, which is 1 in every 4 deaths. Thanks to a grant from the South Central Community Foundation, the Macksville City Library is working to lower those numbers through education & fun incentives, as we March into Heart Health!
To make this programming a reality, the library was awarded a $300 grant from SCCF, a regional foundation that manages charitable funds for seven counties in South-Central Kansas. We have purchased four adult books and three children’s books dealing with heart health. And, bookmarks are available which list 75 Ways to Make Your Heart Healthy: 25 Ways to Exercise Your Heart, 25 Low-Calorie, Heart-Healthy Snacks to Enjoy, & 25 Ways to Reduce Stress.
We are partnering with the local grade school Physical Education classes to spread heart healthy information & to challenge the kids to be active when they go home every day. Students who fill out their March Madness Fitness Challenge calendar will be working to meet their goals & score some fun prizes along the way.
Patrons who visit the library can also pick up a calendar page to help them March Into Heart Health. Those who record at least 465 minutes of activity in March (averaging 15 minutes a day), can turn in their page to enter our prize drawing. (more info to follow! 🙂 )
I picked up my sheet yesterday! Thanks for inspiring us all to get exercise!❤️❤️❤️
