Old Glory Flies Again…
The Macksville City Library is proud to be flying a new flag!
Our old flag, given to us by Girl Scout Troop 50012 many years ago, was faded and torn, and the pole was bent.
What a joy to see this group of young ladies marching into the library to deliver our new flag!
And, what a comfort to know that they will honorably dispose of our old flag during a special flag retirement ceremony.
The girls are responsible for flags being flown all around our community. They raise money for the flags by collecting & recycling aluminum cans. (And, they welcome donations of aluminum cans year round! 🙂 ) Thank You, Girls Scouts!!!
In other news, our Maintain Don’t Gain program is now completed. We had 20 participants, and 16 of them managed to make it through the holidays without gaining more than two pounds. (not an easy feat during a time when many gain 5 to 10 pounds!) During the program, participants each received a “Live Well, Choose Well” cup, a hand massager, a bookmark with stress relieving tips on it, and two packets of tips to help navigate the holidays (Thanksgiving through New Years) in a healthy way.
Congratulations to our winners, who each took home $50 in Mack-Bucks– Way to go, Sue D. & Eileen L.!
And, THANKS to the South Central Community Foundation for the grant which made this possible, & to the Macksville Recreation Commission for $100 in prize money.
