Summer Reading #4 Together Everyone Achieves More!
We learned about a popular acronym for the word TEAM at Story Hour #4:
Together, Everyone Achieves More!
This has proven true for the library– especially after 12 years of fundraising to build our new addition, hundreds of donations & memorials, plus some very timely grants. It also pertained to the actual building of the library. From the architects & engineers, to contractors & carpenters, to plumbers & electricians, to carpet layers & volunteer paint crews, to Macksville students & City maintenance men… it took many, many hands to make this addition a reality!
We read the book: Someone Builds the Dream, by Lisa Wheeler & Loren Long. And then we used TEAMWORK to get 40 cornhole scores & a prize for all.
When the game was over, kids were asked to complete the phrase “The Macksville City Library is…” Hands shot up, & these are some of their replies: Fun! Amazing! Electricity! Super Super Super Super Fun! Fantastic! Wonderful! Cool! Fun Pickles, & Huge! 🙂 (Honestly, the same could be said about these AWESOME kids!)
Kids were encouraged to draw a picture of the library or something to do with reading, & these will be considered in our creation of postcards for the library (all ages can participate– come pick up a sheet to submit soon!)
Our craft was creating horseshoe magnets– TEAM themed or whatever they imagined.
Kids then checked out books & picked brag tags, snacks & sidewalk chalk for the trip home. Many of them also picked out a KIND button because of something they did that was kind during the past week. Some examples of KIND-nesses were: baking for someone, giving a foot rub, feeding a pet, giving hugs, & helping another friend reach a book that was too high on a shelf.
If you or your child missed a week of Summer Reading, it’s not too late to join the fun! (And even catch up on crafts!)
On Monday, July 3rd we will have a special Share-A-Story program with Smoky Hills PBS. Every child in attendance will receive a FREE book! Visitors WELCOME!
July 10th will be our final Story Hour for the younger participants– mark your calendars for the Pool Party to follow, if weather allows. 😉
