How can the 2023 Summer Reading Program for 6th & Under be over SO QUICKLY?!!!

After kids put their stars on the attendance chart & stickers on our big collage (& many now guessed what it is! See below…), Mrs. Loomis kicked off the Story Hour by reading the book: TOGETHER, from Heifer International.  

(Then, the kids surprised this librarian with a beautiful Birthday serenade! ♥)

After that, we all grabbed books from the SCKLS rotating collection & headed outside for a group picture.

The next story we read was The Giant Hug, by Sandra Horning.

Ask the kiddos how it might be possible to send a Giant Hug to Granny through the mail… & then ask what Granny might send back! 🙂

For our craft, we made postcards to send or to share. These creative kids came up with some very cool designs!

To go along with our All Together Now theme, kids put together blocks to make hearts.

Then they picked lots & lots of PRIZES!  From books & snacks, to tokens & glue sticks, to pencils & brag tags, to stuffies & fidget flowers!

Special prizes were given to Addison, for guessing the mural on DAY 1! And, prizes were given to SIX kids who had Perfect Attendance for all six Story Hours! Congrats to: Natalie, Edith, Hallie, Hudson, Cooper, & Emma. (and special thanks to the adults in their lives who made the commitment to bring them!)

And, we are SO THANKFUL for our sponsors, for making the prizes, programs, crafts, books on shelves, and more possible!!!  We received a $2,250 Summer Reading Grant from Dollar General! A $100 dollar grant from Golden Belt Telephone. A $100 donation from the Pratt Walmart. A $100 Summer Reading grant from SCKLS. Tokens from The Country Store. Cookies from VBS & Library Board Members. Free Programs from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center and Smoky Hills Public Television. And, help with crafts & more from dedicated volunteers, like Eileen & Suzanna.

Our time ended with kids picking up marbles with their toes to earn popsicles, which were a refreshing end to a busy day!

Our Grand prize drawing for this group will be July 17th– so if you haven’t turned in Reading Logs, there is still time to get entered in the drawing and/or pick up some cool prizes.
