Summer Reading Finale for Grades 6th & Under
The Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program came to a close for Grades 6th & Under this past Monday.
If you missed the final party, there is still time to read, turn in a reading log, catch up on crafts (while supplies last), & snag some awesome prizes!
Our 6th Story Hour began with Mrs. Loomis sharing the book: Don’t Worry Little Crab, by Chris Haughton.
Then, because it was our PARTY day, we read: Blobfish Throws a Party, by Miranda Paul.
Special Prizes were given to award winners:
Natalie, Halley, & Jr. received headlamps & magnets for 100% attendance! WooHoo!
Those who put fish on our “Catch of the Day” favorite books poster each received a bottle of bubbles. And, Abigail will receive the book, maybe: A story about the endless potential in all of us, by Kodi Yamada.
[When Abigail had visited the library earlier & wanted to put a fish on the poster, I asked her if she had found a book that she liked? “No!” she exclaimed, “I didn’t like it… I LOVED IT!” (My heart melted on the spot!) (FYI- Hush Little Horsie, by Jane Yolen is the book ♥)]
Volunteers were thanked– ten different teens helped on various days, & Mrs. Loomis had 100% attendance & received a Volunteer mug. 🙂
Top Reader by minutes was Alvaro, who received an Ocean Puzzleball.
Top Readers by books were Jr., Emma, and Adlley! Way to READ!
Names were drawn for prizes, including T-shirts, headlamps, a camp chair, sketch book & pencils, and a beach towel, as well as the Octopus & Jellyfish hanging in the library!
THEN, everyone got prizes!!!! After sinking a beanbag in the cornhole game, kids got to pick out a bag from the Country Store, two books to keep, a stuffed fish, an activity book, a toy, a pencil, a beach ball, a shark glider, & a brag tag that said, “I MET MY GOAL!”
And, the fun wasn’t over, yet!
Our final craft was BUBBLE CUPS!
Kids first decorated the outside of their cup with markers.
Then, we added a straw, a washcloth, a rubber band, a dab of DAWN dish soap to spread, and a healthy spritz of water from a spray bottle.
The results were crazy!
It does take a lot of air- and maybe a little practice for the younger ones! But, when one would succeed, they all were excited!
As kids walked out the door, they received snacks provided by The Table, Macksville’s new Coffee Shop on Main Street!
And, true to our OCEANS theme, we ended the program with a POOL PARTY!
THANKS to the Evans family for letting us borrow their kayak! The little ones enjoyed boat rides from Linda & Sam!
Sponsors for our 2022 Summer Reading Program: SCKLS (Banners, bookmarks, etc.), The Country Store (bookbags), Golden Belt Telephone ($100 donation), Equity Bank (hosted a story time & provided snacks), Midwest Energy ($372 for books), South Central Community Foundation (bubble cup supplies), Board members (snacks), The Table (snacks).
And, THANKS to volunteers & speakers: SHPTV, the Wetlands Education Center, & Dr. Joyce Frey.
Remember, our Adult & Young Adult program will continue through August 1st. Special crafts & prizes will be announced soon!
If you missed a day, drop by & take a shark photo or make a craft!
Stay COOL & Keep Reading!
