Summer Reading- Finale & Pool Party!
Strike up the Band!
Summer Reading 2018 is over for kids 6th grade & younger.
Our final Story Hour featured a game of musical instrument charades, and we read the book: Have You Heard the Nesting Bird? by Rita Gray.
Kids decorated their Readers Rock photo magnets & picked LOTS of PRIZES! We are SOOOO THANKFUL to Dollar General for the $1,000 grant for Summer Reading! (Click here to visit the DG Literacy Foundation website)
This grant helped us purchase instructional materials, amazing books, cool crafts, prizes and supplies to make our program a success. This is the 9th year we have received a Dollar General Summer Reading Grant, and this funding has made ALL the DIFFERENCE in the programming we offer! Dollar General has awarded more than $146 million in grants to literacy organizations that have helped more than 9 million individuals learn to read, prepare for the high school equivalency, or learn English. Amazing! We are honored to be part of that legacy!
Following Story Hour, all readers who met their reading goals were invited to our Summer Reading pool party.
Kids received Pop Rocks & bouncy rocks to cap off our Libraries Rock! Summer Reading theme.
These kids agree: Libraries Rock! Books Rock! and Readers Rock! 🙂
Some prizes kids received were school supplies (markers, pencils, glue sticks, etc.), books, silk bookmarks, and sunglasses. Top readers, pictured below, also received special prizes for their hard work (and love of reading!). Thanks to the Pratt Wal-Mart for the $100 donation to help provide prizes and snacks for our final program!Story Hours may be over– but the library is open ALL YEAR LONG! Plus, we have prizes yet to give for Adults and Young Adults reading at least five books this summer. 🙂 Keep Reading! Keep Rocking!!
Great job Jody on another awesome summer reading program! Macksville is so blessed to have you!
