Graphic Novel: I Survived the Great Chicago Fire, 1871 by Lauren Tarshis: Never give up. You can make it.
Guts by Raina Telgemeier : “… Family is forever.”
Smile by Raina Telgemeier: “And I am not going to let the rest of you disrespect me anymore!”
It Ends with Us by Coleen Hoover: “You can stop swimming now, Lily. We finally reached the shore.” And, an adult read the same book, summarizing: “The courage you need is within you.” (Coleen Hoover books were popular in both age groups!)
Adult results/recommendations:
Some adult participants stuck to reading kid’s books (to their kids!)… That is WONDERFUL! And now that school is starting, maybe they can find some for themselves, as well! 😉
All My Knotted Up Life by Beth Moore- A thought provoking truthful autobiography of Beth.
My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry by Fredrik Backman “Death’s greatest power is not that is can make people die, but that it can make people want to stop living.”
To the Moon and Back by Karen Kingsbury: “God isn’t the reason bad things happen. He’s the rescue.”
Harvest Moon by Denise Hunter: Heart-wrenching story about guardianship of an orphan.
Raspberry Danish Murder by Joanne Fluke- Don’t read this book if on diet!
Many enjoyed the trilogy by Linda Lea Miller: Country Born, Country Strong, & Country Proud.
Pa Salt by Lucinda Riley -The Seven Sisters books are just so fun to read. Love all the history! Another summary: Along life’s journey you will encounter blessings.
Make Your Bed by William H. McRaven. “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.”
The Night of the Wolf by Cassandra Clark: Corrupt power murders woman in medieval times.
Blaze Me a Sun by Christoffer Carlsson. “Lies have their time. The truth must have its own, too.”
The Hidden Child by Louise Feir: It’s a shame what prejudice can do.
A Year of Fog by Michelle Richmond: She never gave up finding her kidnapped child.
The Last Words Bookshop by Stephanie Butland: Reading can take you anywhere you want.
American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins- I am blessed to live in America.
Whistling in the Dark by Lesley Kagen- Small towns have some amazing stories.
Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See- A woman before her time, Tan’s grandmother taught her medical practices when doctors were basically men, & women were only supposed to be midwives. A great book!
Secrets in the Dark by Heather Graham- Keeps you thinking!
