The Kiddos’ Might
This past week at the library, one young patron excitedly reached into his pocket & held out his palm to show me his prize.
“Look what I found at the track meet yesterday!”
“Cool!” I exclaimed, admiring his bright shiny quarter. “What a lucky day! Better save that for something special.”
He smiled & put it back in his pocket.
Later that morning, after our children’s program was over, I saw him roaming around the library, walking among the old shelves & weaving around the children’s books & boxes lined up on the floor.
When all of the other kids had left, he came up to me with an announcement.
“Jody, you know that jar on your desk that says ‘Library Donations’ on it?”
“Yes,” I replied.
“I just put my quarter in it!”
My heart caught in my throat, but I managed to give him a fist bump with a declaration, “You are so AWESOME!”
…You see, over the years, I’ve had countless kids donate to the building fund– with their precious pennies, dimes, quarters & the occasional dollar bill.
I’ve even tried to give the money back at times, knowing how important each coin can be for some families.
But these kids– they are MIGHTY!
They believed it when we told them that “Every little bit counts!“
They believed it when they saw the architectural drawing tacked to the bulletin board showing what the library might look like someday.
They believed that their giving would make a difference, & they kept hope alive for all of us… helping us persevere during twelve long years of fundraising.
On our Thanks & Memorials page we’ve listed so many heartfelt memorials, donations & grants to the Building Fund.
These kids (some now adults) have made heartfelt contributions, too! ♥
“THANKS“ to them & to all who have helped turn the smallest of investments & the biggest of dreams into a concrete space we can all enjoy & be proud of.
It really does all add up.
Let’s keep DREAMING mighty dreams!
Way to go young man! 🙂
