Week #18 Paint the Walls
Last week we “Decked the Halls,” & this week we “Painted the Walls,” thanks to a $500 new program grant from the South Central Kansas Library System! This grant allowed us to offer programs we’d never offered before, & it helped us purchase essential painting supplies & incentives for the volunteers who gave of their time & talents to help out their local library & community.
The week began with patrons continuing to decorate ornaments, create garlands for our tree, & sign up for prizes.
(Remember to drop by the library- You can sign up until Dec. 20th!)
The drywall crew finished sanding, & we got word that it was TIME to PAINT! But, first, the walls needed swept down (again). What a dusty job!
On Friday night, a crew of six volunteers tackled the first coat of primer. With no acoustical ceiling, windows, outlets, or carpet to avoid, we were thankful that taping wasn’t part of the job, too.
It took about 3 1/2 hours to ROLL on the coat of primer. WHEW!
On Saturday, we rejoiced when the sprayer showed up (and operator, too!).
What a difference it made, having one person spray, while others back-rolled.
Some of us were novices with the paint rollers, & some were pros. But, “many hands make light work,” & seven volunteers finished the mammoth job in a little over three hours!
The kitchenette & bathroom were a different color than the two main rooms, so they were painted with rollers & brushes. And, the interior wall of the library needed that hand-painted touch, as well.
On Monday morning, three helped put on a second coat of paint on the small rooms, interior wall of library & some touch ups.
So THANKFUL for those who were able & willing to give back to their community: Kelly B, Vickey H, Debbie B, David & Tracy D, Robb & Jody S, and Troy & Audrey W (even working on their anniversary!).
A little more painting will be needed before the job is finished, but the work done this weekend was a HUGE step on the journey to making this building addition a reality.
Week 19 & 20 look to be super eventful… keep checking in!
What a blessing to have faithful volunteers!
