Week #27 Checking Off the Necessities
Countertops were installed in Week #27– and we love how they tie the rooms together! Looking forward to faucets & running water soon…
The baby changing station arrived, & the gaping hole left by our old furnace was filled in with reclaimed wainscot (which will hide behind some special local artwork when all is complete).
In the original library, the registers in the floor are no longer in use since we tied into the new furnace & cut registers in the ceiling.
So, workers plugged the ductwork from below, removed the old registers, & filled the holes with insulation, a concrete-like filler, &, in some cases, a piece of wainscot, to prepare the floor for new carpeting.
Outside the library, our new railing is sturdy & ‘ready to steady’ patrons! And, the downspouts now have concrete pads to direct rainwater away from the foundation.
Everywhere I go, people are asking when the GRAND OPENING will be! 🙂
We are still waiting on carpet (projected to arrive in March) before we have to move almost everything into the new part. Then, we will need a little time AND people-power to put almost everything BACK!
We are still raising funds, trying to figure out a plan for book shelves in the new children’s section (plus window treatments, closet shelving, seating, etc!).
So, the children’s books may be in boxes or crates for a while- but most patrons are just excited about the move & the brand new space. One commented that she “actually likes searching through the stacks.” Another chimed in, “It’s fun!”
This librarian is super thankful for those positive attitudes… but I also dream of the day when there is a place for every book, every game, every bit of memorabilia, and for every person who enters these doors!
This journey started over 11 years ago…
In that context: these 27 Weeks have FLOWN BY!
