Grand Finale- Snapshot of FUN!
Tales & Tails & the Readers who Love them…
Tales & Tails was a perfect theme for our 2021 Summer Reading Program! Below are snapshots from our final project of Summer!
Kids were given the challenge to read to one of their favorite critters… whether four-legged, scaly, feathered, spiny, or even stuffed!
We saw lots of dogs, a cat, a horse, a donkey, a goat, and even a chicken.
The library staff & volunteers also joined the fun! (What dog wouldn’t love the book: Go Dog Go! ?! Or, some Tail Waggin’ Tales!)
Some photos were taken at the library with our menagerie of stuffed critters.
Some readers made their own ‘Books’ for their critters to pose with… because they didn’t want any unruly listeners to damage the library books!
And, it’s a good thing this goat didn’t get near a real library book…
He actually ATE the “Once Upon a Goat” book his buddy made! 🙂 YUM!
At our Grand Finale all participants received copies of their animal pictures & magnetic frames to hang them on a refrigerator. They also received books to keep, colored pencil sets, pawprint pencils & erasers, & brag tags.
We began with a matching game- trying to put the names of the pets to the buddies reading to them (can you find G, Octavia, Hip, Riley, Muñeca, Gus, Bella, Pollita, Pepper, Dory, Maybelle, & Clifford in the photos above?)
Next, Mrs. Loomis read the book: Those Darn Squirrels! by Adam Rubin. They paid close attention and answered 14/15 questions from the all six Story Times.
To earn prizes, we played games where kids had to score 500 points to pick their prize.
Six kids were rewarded for 100% Attendance! (And, seven kids only missed once!) Wow! We had a drawing for four t-shirts, & we honored four top readers with headlamps plus our TOP reader (reading 68 books) with a hedgehog mug & note set.
The prize drawing winner for this age group was the youngest one on the roster. It may be a while before he grows into his sunhat!
We topped it all off with frosted animal cookies & ice cream cones.
We are SO THANKFUL for the parents & grandparents who supported our program & helped promote their child’s future SUCCESS in reading & beyond!
We also could not have had such a GREAT program without volunteers like: Mrs. Loomis, Anna, Emily, Jacelyn, Kole, & Cody. Carrie Newdigger from MHS & Pam Martin from KWEC put on GREAT programs, too!
Sponsors like Smoky Hills PBS donated books. Golden Belt Telephone donated $100 for chairs & hats for our reading programs (YA & Adult still to be drawn). The Pratt Walmart donated $100 towards snacks & prizes for our programs. The Country Store in Macksville donated tokens for fountain drinks for all who meet their reading goals! 🙂
AND, Dollar General awarded us a grant of $1,225 for our Tales & Tails program. (The coins you drop in the box at DG do add up!) With these funds, we were able to get incentives for the kids (like stuffed kittens & puppies), instructional tools (like die-cut tools for crafts), technology (like cameras for check-out & teaching), and most importantly, many, many wonderful books that will be available for check out All Year Long!
*The FINALE is over (for 6th grade & younger), but don’t forget to return your library books & pick up your token for The Country Store!
And, if you didn’t turn in a completed reading log, you can still finish it up & turn it in for prizes (while supplies last!)
Notice: YA & Adults: your Summer Reading program ends on August 2nd. Logs may be turned in at any time. 🙂
Keep Reading Fantastic Tales!
